9-14-2013 ICA Leavenworth
This past weekend the ICA held the 7th points tournament of the year at Leavenworth, IN on the Ohio River. I fished it with my son Brandon Wallace. I made plans with Jason and Heath Malone to meet up with them at Bass Pro in Clarksville, IN to get some things then go catch bait. But we had timed each other so well that we met up on 65 South of Indy and followed each other down there.
We met Daniel Lux at the New Albany ramp and i just invited him to go out with me instead by himself. We headed up to the dam to try for skips. They started off not biting but as it drew closer to dark they turned on for us but they were pretty small. Lux caught one decent one.
We launched in the morning and i tried throwing the net in the little blue river but could not get any shad, i did however get one small carp. I kept him and threw him in a bucket to use for bait.
We ran about 15 miles to our spot and i cut the head off that carp and a big gut section and used some frozen mooneye and skipjack. Within about 20 minutes we had a takedown on the carp head. Brandon got it up but a little too quick so it never burped. I figured it was 30-40lbs and maybe even 50 but that was a in the moment prayer type thought lol. I shoved a tube i keep on the boat just for this in his mouth and down and it did the trick with the air releasing. We continued our drift and caught 2 more but much smaller. I decided to move without re drifting that area (Here was my mistake). The boat was giving me an error and beep and not runnign right and shutting down. We caught only a small channel at the new spot and i went back to the first spot. I drifted it again with no result and decided with my boat running bad to head back close to ramp.
We got back and went up the creek and tried it but found a lot of turtles giving us problems till it was time to go turn in.
Here was the results.
