5/18-19/2013 ICA Williams Dam (White River)

ICA Williams Dam (White River) 3rd Points tournament of the year.

My son Brandon and i got there really early to fish the dam for some fresh skipjack. There was a few other people there catching them but i had trouble as i did not use the correct pole or lures. I ended up catching 1 though.

I also decided to purchase a 10 gallon drink cooler to convert to a live bait tank thats already insulated. it worked really good except my batteries died and i did not notice later at night and my bluegills died.

The weather was supposed to be a chance of thunderstorms early in the evening and diminishing by 12-1 am. It never did rain . The temp was in the upper 80s for a high and got down to about 65 as a low i think. the water temp was about 68 degrees and the depth mostly was 10-20 feet.

My game plan for this tourney was to head way up river to salt creek and go about a mile or so into it and find a spot then find 3 or so spots on the way back out to the main river. The water was really pushing out of the creek and we fought the debris for awhile. We first anchored up above a train trestle and i got a couple runs on some secret cut bait but figured out there was a large snag crossing the whole creek right there. (Just about every line was snagged so we moved on up)

The next spot  i had a fish on and bringing it in to the boat with all the debris and current the fish came off about  foot from the boat. It looked to be about an 6-8lb flathead. I decided i wasnt messing with the creek anymore and moved out to the main river. We found a spot with a tree in the water that looked to have been there a while and set up on it to fish and fished it the entire night.

The first bite i got at this spot i felt the fish and it felt big like i couldnt get it off the bottom big. I felt the fish moving and fighting me but it just wasnt working it way up so i had Brandon let rope out till i was right over it. When i lifted it up and finally got it to the surface i was shocked to see TWO flatheads. So two of my lines had caught identical 8lb flatheads then got tangled on a tree branch making it feel like i had a monster on lmao. I ended up catching 2 more flatheads in that spot around 6 and 4 lbs and had a total weight of 24 lbs with 4 fish.

We got 7th place out of 30 boats and are currently in 3rd place in overall points.

I lost the bolt to mount my gopro camera so i got no video from this tourney but here is a couple pics.
