4-26-2014 Extreme – Tanners Creek

4-26-2014 Extreme Catfishing Tanners Creek. I fished with Daniel Lux. Our plan was to go all the way to Cincinnati and work our way back. We got up to the spot we wanted first. marked good fish but could not get a bite. We tried drifting and anchoring in the area but the wind made it a bit too difficult to drift.

We anchored up next to some barges and i had a really good bite and i fought the fish all the way to the back of the boat and could tell it was a 30+ lb fish and a rare fish for that stretch of water due to the commercial fishing done around there.

Dan had started the pump in on the livewell to get it ready for the fish. Right at the back of the boat the fish came off and when i pulled the line in i didn’t notice right away but when i went to bait the hook to recast i noticed why the fish got away.

It had broke the 8/0 Gamakatsu Octopus Circle right behind the barb. I have others have similar reports but this was the first and last time this has happened to me. I have since changed over to Charlie Brown hooks.

Also Dan forgot to shut the pump off for the livewell and all of a sudden we seen water spilling out of the top. I have a 1200 gph pump in and out. But the weight of all that water made the back of the boat sit dangerously low. So we got the water pumped out fast.
