3-1-2014 ICA Open Tanners Creek

 3-1-2014 Started off my 2014 Tournaments at the ICA Open at Tanners Creek.

I fished with my wife Brandy Wallace. Water temp was 32 and air temp was 30-50. River was on a hard drop.

For this year i had sold my old boat and bought a different one. The new boat had a lot of work that needed to be done to be ready to fish this tournament and i worked on it daily for two weeks and up till midnight the night before this tourney to get it at least fishable ready.

After getting to the first spot i wanted to fish i threw the anchor and the water was just moving to fast so the anchor would not hold. We decided to move up into a tributary a little bit right at the mouth. That did not produce at all so we moved further in. I noticed i was marking more fish back in there but not much of size. There was thin ice in places the further we went in. We anchored up and immediately started getting bites. We missed a few and determined it to be small channels. We decided to move again to the main river but find a current break. We did that and again was getting bites and missing so i decided it was time to downsize hooks and bait. I went down to 6/0 and smaller chunks of frozen skipjack and Dead Red blood spray. I caught 3 channel cats really fast then struggled to get any more there so we moved to try deeper water for the last couple hours of the tourney. We fished a 65-70 foot hole for the last bit and had only a few nibbles with no takers.

Lesson learned = Cold Water fishing i really have a lot to learn here but Bait down to very small chunks or fillets.

9 boats entered 3 did not weigh in a fish. We placed 4th with 9.8 lbs total weight.
